Alan Titchmarsh introduces us to the 4th series of Love Your Garden which was first aired on 24 June 2014.
Alan is again joined by his trusty team of David Domoney, Katie Rushworth and Frances Tophill.
This series ran for 8 episodes and again follows the usual format and for me this series had no outstanding gardens but it did have many interesting design features as well as the usual deserving recipients.
A topiary Giraffe, an outstanding out door kitchen and a purple gothic shed amongst others features in this series.
They also tackled one of the smallest gardens they have done for the Weller family from Runcorn in episode 4 and still managed to pack the garden with design features including a seating area made of natural materials.
In episode 2 we met Ian and Clare Estick who founded a charity to help other bereaved parents after the sad loss of their 23 month old son Daniel from septicaemia. The Daniel Estick Trust
The large L shaped garden had become overgrown and had neglected play equipment and the greenhouse had seen better days.
The new garden included an entertainment area, some grapevines and hops to remind them when they had the pub. A separate designated growing area with a new greenhouse with Potager including Sunflowers as this is special to Claire as her and Daniel planted some together.
A huge Sunflower is also the centre piece to the planting area and brick paving, their Son Christopher gets a new pitch and goal and Daughter Isobel also gets a new play area.
Episode 5 and the Woods family got a seaside inspired garden, including an eating out area as well as a bespoke play area for the children.
With 4 children to keep amused in the small garden, they had to be inventive in the placing and they made walkways and rope bridge through the planting. They also have their own seating area.
This natural looking play area using the existing tree and weaving through the planting beds was a great addition to the garden plan and fitting in perfectly with the rest of the landscaping.
What makes this programme is the stories and the deserving recipients and hearing all the good they have done for other people.
I often wonder if they had let their garden go or not be able to manage, how on earth are they going to manage with a load more plants though!
The planting is often for impact and planted very closely I do wonder if it turns into a jungle of plants or it all stays looking good?
It would be nice to go back and visit some gardens like they have done on the most recent Garden Rescue Series 9 in the revisited episodes.
Love your Garden remains a much loved, feel good show, with some gardening thrown in, who can not like that!
