Gardeners' World 2024 returns with Monty Don welcoming us to the first of four Gardeners' World Winter Specials 2024.
The first programme was shown a bit too early in my opinion on Friday15 November 2024 on BBC2 and repeated in the Saturday morning Gardening slot and is also available on the BBC iplayer.
These Winter Specials last year started in December but this year it is the following week to the main series ending!
Personally I think January or February would be better scheduling when there is not much to do in the garden!
The programmes are a celebrate of all things about the Winter seasons and include the usual visits to Long Meadow to see what things we can be doing in the garden at this time of year.
The main part of the programme are the presenters visits to various gardens and places of interest up and down the country which were filmed throughout the year.
There will also be visits to viewers gardens to see what they have been doing in their gardens.
In the first episode Carol Klein visits a garden in Somerset and shows us some of the best Winter Shrubs to plant for colour and fragrance during the long Winter months.
There is also a visit to an allotment in Birmingham and an Orchard for tips on how to prune properly.
This series seems a little rushed through, starting a month earlier than the previous Series but maybe it is because Monty has his 5 part Series 'Monty Don's British Gardens' starting in early January.
The saying 'how can I miss you if you never go away?' springs to mind, I always feel a bit complaisant at the end of Gardeners' world as a 32 episode run is too long for me.
There are not enough Gardening Programmes on during the Winter and to add this onto the end of a long run of episodes, I find frustrating.
So whether you want to 'Don' those wellies and woollies and join Monty doing the Winter jobs, or you have put your garden to bed for the Winter, it's Monty and a cuppa for 4 more weeks on a Friday evening!
