Ruth Vichos is a Horticultural Lecturer, New Garden Expert and Presenter on Beechgrove Garden 2024 who Grew up in Shetland, Scotland.
She left Shetland when she went to University to become a Nurse but decided this is not the path she wanted to take and moved to Jersey.
After a varied career in retail and Customer Service, Ruth studied for a Bachelor's degree Horticultural Science at The University of Glasgow followed by a Master's degree Food Security at The University of Edinburgh.
Ruth worked as a Agricultural Development Advisor for a Guernsey based charity The Eleanor Foundation in Tanzania.
The Eleanor Foundation works in North West Tanzania as well as in rural communities in Chato and Biharamulo.
It funds various projects like water sanitation, solar lights, supporting families as well as Agriculture and looking at what they produce and obtaining quality seeds to help with the impact of the lack of rain.
She studied for City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training
Ruth then started working at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) in Edinburgh becoming a Lecturer in Agriculture Horticulture And Engineering Sciences and Programme Lead.
She is now a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for Horticulture.
Ruth made her first appearance in Episode 4 on 25 April 2024 from SRUC where she spoke about the composition of peat free compost ad potted on some red peppers she had grown from seed with her daughter.
Next time we saw her visiting Leanne and her allotment to help her with her gardening problems and then in the Beechgrove Garden.
Ruth finally made her presenting debut in Episode 14 on 04/07/2024 when her and Lizzie Schofield were in Beechgrove with Ruth taking Soft wood cuttings and discussing grass clippings.
Ruth Vichos lives just outside of Edinburgh and likes to keep her family life private.
