Alan Fred Titchmarsh CBE is a Gardener, Author and TV Presenter of a range of programmes including Love Your Garden.
Alan was born in Ilkley, West Riding of Yorkshire on 2nd May 1949, his Father was a plumber and part time fireman, his Mother was a textile worker.
His father was a typical Yorkshireman and they both instilled in him very strong family values.
Sunday afternoon walks on the moors around Wharfdale and a childhood surrounded by nature gave Alan a love for the outdoors.
Alan's Grandfather was a gardener but his father was not so keen as he was made to do all the weeding as a child!
As a child Alan enjoyed growing plants in the family back garden and his childhood hero was Perch Thrower.
Alan sang treble in the choir at his local church and also took to the stage with his local Amateur operatic society and also the Ilkley Players.

Alan Titchmarsh left Ilkley County Secondary School at 15 and his first paid green fingered experience was as an apprentice gardener for 4 years.
Alan enrolled full time at Shipley Art and Technology Institute to study for a City & Guilds in Horticulture.
He then went to Hertfordshire College of Agriculture leaving with a National Certificate in Horticulture.
A national Diploma in Horticulture at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew was his next step, where he was then employed as a supervisor and staff trainer.
Alan Titchmarsh and wife Alison Titchmarsh met performing amateur dramatics and the pair got married in 1975.
Alan Titchmarsh has 2 daughters, Camilla and Polly Titchmarsh and four grandchildren.
Alan first appeared on our screens as the Horticulture expert on Nationwide.
In 1983 he was to present the BBC coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show for 30 years until 2013.
Alan then went on to be a regular on our screens appearing on BBC news and Pebble Mill at One before he was to become the host of Gardeners' World.
Ground Force with Charlie Dimmock and Tommy Walsh brought a new wave of gardening makeover shows to the masses of amateur armchair gardeners.
One of the most memorable episodes was when they flew out to South Africa to makeover Nelson Mandela's garden.
How to be a Gardener ran for 2 series and took us back to common sense garden and away from decking and quick fix solutions.
Alan Titchmarsh hosts Love your Garden, the show first aired in June 2011 but with a very different format to the garden makeover show we all know and love.
In series 1 Alan visited themed gardens around the UK, each week featuring a different specific theme.
Series 2 saw the start of the much loved format of creating inspirational gardens for people that deserved them most.
Alan was joined by his trusty team of gardeners including David Domoney, Katie Rushworth and Frances Tophill,
Love Your Garden ran for 13 series and ended in 2022 and has changed the life and gardens of the recipients and inspired gardeners to makeover their own gardens.
Alan career has taken many turns from his TV appearances presenting Songs of Praise, Documentaries, Popstar to Opera Star and even being the voice of a gnome in Gordon the Garden Gnome for CBeebies!
Alan has also had his own chat show The Alan Titchmarsh Show, hosted the Antiques Roadshow and presented Secrets of the National Trust.
Alan Titchmarsh career also includes events, his Radio shows for Radio 2 as well as his many novels.
Alan presented a 2 part series The Queen's Garden which was filmed over a year at Buckingham Palace gardens.
In 2026 Alan Titchmarsh will be having a garden at RHS Chelsea Flower show as an RHS Ambassador and for the Kings Foundation.
The Curious Garden will be designed by Frances Tophill with Alan and Sir David Beckham helping her!
Alan Titchmarsh is now well into his 70's and although slowed down somewhat with Love Your Garden and Alan Titchmarsh's Gardening Club not being shown anymore he still busy with his weekend programmes and looks like retiring is not happening just yet!
Alan Titchmarsh has moved from his house near Alton in Hampshire with 4 acre garden and has down sized to a more manageable home and Garden.
Alan new house a 16th Century Cottage in Surrey garden transformation is being documented on his social media.
